Cardiff's Basic Skills Service offers day and evening activities at the Friary Centre, at Open Learning Centres throughout Cardiff, and in local daytime and evening groups.
Aims and objectives
To enable adults to improve their literacy, numeracy and ICT skills so they can function at work and in society in general.
Social inclusion
Our policy is to provide accessibility to all, including travellers, the homeless, asylum seekers, those with language difficulties and people with learning and physical disabilities. Crèche provision and disabled access are available at most centres.

The Disability Advisory and Resource Team (DART), provides a range of specialist courses specifically designed for adults with:
· learning disabilities
· mental health problems
· physical disabilities
· acquired brain injuries
Courses include:
· self advocacy
· confidence building
· assertiveness
· digital photography
· ICT
· art and craft
· dance
· music
· complimentary therapies
· yoga
· cookery
DART also provides courses in:
· British Sign Language
· deaf awareness
· communication tactics
· living history of BSL
· lip reading
All courses are:
· designed to meet individual needs
· flexible to students' individual needs
· made up of small groups
· taught by experienced, supportive tutors
· set in a suitable and accessible learning environment
