Get Telemarketers to Stop calling you
Get your name off Mailing Lists
Most of us regularly receive unsolicited “junk” mail. Here are some steps you can
take to prevent this:
Register with the government monitored Mail Preference Service (MPS). Visit their
website at www.mpsonline.org.uk.
Junk mail should decrease within a few weeks of registering with the MPS. However,
since postal campaigns are prepared some months in advance, it can take up to six
months for registration to take full effect.
If the junk mail continues after this period then send the mail in question to their
complaints department. (www.mpsonline.org.uk/mpsr/complaints/).
Call the customer service department of the individual company that sent you the
mail and ask them to remove you from their lists. Have the mail handy when you call
them for any references they might require from this.
Tell mail-order companies or any other company that you deal with regularly not to
give out your name to other companies.
Watch out for tick boxes when filling out forms, especially on the internet.
Avoid sending in warranty cards - you will still be covered but the company won’t
have the chance to send you any more information.
Go ex-directoy - a lot of companies use the telephone directories.

You can curtail or eliminate annoying calls from telemarketers. All it takes is a little effort and the following information:
Contact your phone company about call ID services. With caller ID, you choose not to answer numbers from callers who block identification.
Resist trying to reason with a telemarketer. Telemarketing companies have scripted responses for almost anything you say.
Prepare for those unwanted calls before they happen. Write the phrase, “put my number on your don’t call list” on a memo by your phone.
Stay on the line when they call, you actually have to speak to them in order for them to stop calling. Tell them you wished to be placed on their “do-not-call” list.
Register your phone number with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) - you can do this via their web pages (www.tpsonline.org.uk).
The Telecommunications (Data Protections and Privacy) Regulations 1999 make it unlawful for a direct marketing company to call an individual who has objected, either directly to the company or through registration with the TPS.
